Why install CCTV

Why install CCTV at your property?

Modern security cameras are easier to use and more capable than ever. Here’s what a professionally installed system can do for you.

A visible deterrent

Well-placed cameras show that a property is watched and make it a less appealing target.

Evidence you can actually use

Cameras set up to capture clear, identifiable images rather than distant shapes in the dark.

Peace of mind when you’re away

Check on your home or business from anywhere with live view and instant playback.

Smarter, more useful alerts

Person and vehicle detection on supported cameras helps cut out alerts from trees and passing cats.

Keep track of deliveries and visitors

See who has been to the door and when parcels arrived, without trawling through hours of footage.

Protect staff, stock and premises

For businesses, CCTV helps safeguard people and property and can support incident investigations.

CCTV system features

What goes into a One Stop Protection CCTV system

Every component is chosen to suit your property. These are the main building blocks we’ll talk through with you.

Cameras

Camera styles

Each position needs the right type of camera for the distance, lighting and mounting surface.

Options include
  • Dome cameras

Discreet and vandal-resistant, ideal under eaves, in porches and indoors.

  • Bullet cameras

A visible deterrent with longer reach for driveways, gardens and yards.

  • Turret cameras

Compact, easy to aim and less prone to night-time glare.

Image quality

From HD to 4K resolution, with wide dynamic range to handle bright skies and shadowy doorways in the same shot.

Recording & storage

Network video recorder (NVR)

Footage is stored securely on-site, with storage sized to keep recordings for as long as you reasonably need.

Recording modes
  • Continuous recording

Records around the clock so nothing is missed.

  • Motion and event recording

Saves storage and makes footage faster to search and review.

Power over Ethernet (PoE)

A single network cable carries both power and video to each camera for a reliable, tidy installation with fewer points of failure.

Remote viewing & alerts

Smartphone app

View live cameras, play back recordings and export clips from anywhere with an internet connection.

Smart features
  • Person and vehicle detection

On supported cameras, alerts focus on people and cars rather than moving branches.

  • Two-way audio

Speak to visitors or delivery drivers through compatible cameras. The ICO treats recording audio as highly intrusive, so audio recording is usually best left switched off.

  • Detection zones

Only receive alerts when someone enters the areas you care about.

Secure access

Individual user accounts, strong passwords and updated firmware are set up as part of your handover.

CCTV and the law

CCTV and your neighbours: getting privacy right

If your cameras capture images beyond your property boundary, UK data protection law applies. We plan every system to protect your property while keeping intrusion to a minimum.

Focus on your own property

Cameras are positioned and, where needed, privacy-masked to avoid neighbours’ homes, gardens and shared spaces.

Tell people you’re recording

Where cameras capture areas beyond your boundary, clear signage lets visitors and passers-by know CCTV is in use.

Keep footage secure

Recordings are protected with secure logins and only kept for as long as you reasonably need them.

Be ready to respond

People captured on your cameras may ask for a copy of their footage, so it helps to know how to find and export it.

This is general information, not legal advice. For full guidance, see the Information Commissioner’s Office advice on using home CCTV systems.

The cost depends on the number and type of cameras, how far cables need to run, how much recording storage you need and whether any specialist mounting is required. We provide a free, itemised quote after understanding your property, so you only pay for what you need.

Most properties need fewer cameras than people expect when each one is positioned well. We look at entrances, driveways, side access and blind spots, then recommend the smallest number of cameras that gives you clear, useful coverage.

Yes, you can use CCTV to protect your home. However, if your cameras capture images beyond your property boundary, such as a neighbour’s garden, shared areas or a public footpath, UK data protection law applies. You should be able to justify the coverage, tell people that recording is taking place, keep footage secure and only for as long as necessary, and respond to requests for footage. These rules come from UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and if someone asks for footage of themselves (a subject access request) you normally have one month to respond. We position cameras to focus on your property and minimise capturing other people’s. The ICO’s guidance on using home CCTV systems explains your responsibilities in full.

Planning permission is not usually needed for domestic CCTV cameras. If your home is a listed building or in a conservation area, or you live in a flat or leasehold property, check with your local planning authority, freeholder or managing agent before installation. We are happy to talk this through with you.

Yes. The systems we install can be viewed live and played back through a smartphone app, and you can receive motion alerts when activity is detected. We set the app up with you and show you how to find and download footage.

Yes. Modern cameras use infrared night vision to produce clear black-and-white images in darkness, and colour night vision models can show colour images using low light or built-in illumination. We recommend the right type for each position.

Footage is stored on a recorder’s hard drive and the oldest recordings are overwritten automatically. How long it is kept depends on the drive size, number of cameras, resolution and recording settings. We size the storage to suit you and keep retention proportionate.

Wired IP cameras (often powered over a single network cable) are usually the most reliable choice for permanent installations because they do not depend on Wi-Fi signal or batteries. Wireless cameras can suit locations where running cables is impractical. We will recommend the best option for each camera position.
